Bill Roedy presents the MTV 'Free your Mind' award to Mikhail Gorbachev on November 8, 2009 for his involvement in the Fall of the Berlin Wall.

Mikhail Gorbachev received the MTV “Free Your Mind” award, November 8 2009, in Berlin for bringing about change in Europe. The award was presented by MTV Networks International boss Bill Roedy at the Cinema for Peace Foundation dinner. Also the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall- which Gorbachev was instrumental in bringing about.

The MTV Free Your Mind global campaign aims to highlight humanitarian issues and encourage freedom from all kinds of intolerance and prejudice.

Mikhail Gorbachev picked up an MTV EMA Free Your Mind award last night in Berlin for bringing about change in Europe.

The former Russian leader was given the gong by MTV Networks International boss Bill Roedy at the Cinema for Peace Foundation dinner.

This week is the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall- which Gorbachev was instrumental in bringing about.

Roedy said: “We are proud to present the Free Your Mind Award to President Gorbachev in recognition of his bravery, his courage and his determination to bring about change through people power. By being open to unity he broke down physical and psychological barriers and brought peace, stability and freedom to Europe.”

MTV’s global Free Your Mind Campaign aims to highlight humanitarian issues and encourage freedom from all kinds of intolerance and prejudice.

The Free Your Mind Award is given to individuals or organisations that embody those ideals.

Also attending the presentation was Sir Bob Geldof.
